In October of this year Yaxley Riders held their annual awards and presentation dinner at the Admiral Wells in Holme which was well supported by riders. Following a delicious meal awards were presented to those individuals who had been voted for by their fellow riders. The nomination categories were:-
Best Newcomer - Nathan Brede joined the group in Spring 2022 bringing with him a wealth of experience from many years cycling. He has cycled at the weekly rides on Sundays and Tuesday as well as the longer classic rides such as Sunny Hunny, March Hare and the Cathedral Ride. He plays an active part in all aspects of the rides.
Most Hammered - Derek Mills has worked hard all through the 2022 season improving stamina culminating in an epic 150 miles Hunstanton ride in August.
Most Improved - Debbie Wheatley came out of her comfort zone and pushed herself by joining faster groups and holding her own in this more challenging environment.
(Joint) Unsung Heroes- Shaun Graham has throughout the 2022 season demonstrated selfless riding, dropping back to support other riders where necessary. Shaun devised and led the annual Cathedral Ride (now a classic in the events calendar!)
Dean Musgrave has shown leadership by always taking a turn on the front despite the weather conditions and will always will make sure that any riders that have dropped off the back are helped to rejoin the group. He has a wealth of cycling knowledge which he is happy to share.
Rider of Year - Mark Wheatley, since becoming a member of Admin has led several initiatives including the Bike Donation Program supporting the Little Miracles Charity, Rider of the Month and the Strava Club League. His commitment and determination were tested following surgery when he was injured in a cycling accident. Despite the need for two operations Mark surprised everyone by getting back on a bike supporting groups rides and riders within a matter of weeks.
